Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is investigating a multi-victim shooting that occurred Friday afternoon in the 1700 block of North Rainbow Boulevard.

The situation prompted a significant law enforcement response, including SWAT, after reports of gunfire inside a commercial establishment.

The incident was first reported shortly after 1:30 p.m.

According to officials, at least three individuals were shot.

Two victims sustained critical gunshot wounds and were transported to local hospitals in serious condition.

A third victim was pronounced dead at the scene inside the building.

LVMPD confirmed that the suspect, who was armed with a rifle, was confronted and neutralized by responding officers.

One additional person reportedly sustained a graze wound to the chin and was treated at the scene.

As of 1:50 p.m., no officers were reported injured in the encounter.

Sources indicate the shooting occurred inside the Las Vegas Athletic Club located in the area.

Initial reports labeled the incident as an active shooter situation; however, authorities later clarified that it did not meet the criteria for an ongoing active shooter threat.

As a precaution, nearby schools — including McMillan Elementary, Fong Elementary, and Katz Elementary — were briefly placed on lockdown. Those lockdowns have since been lifted, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Traffic in the area was heavily impacted as emergency crews from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and LVMPD responded to the scene.

An investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
