2 killed, 1 injured after shooting and crash in Darke County

Darke County, OH – March 13, 2025 – The Darke County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a violent shooting incident that began at a residence in the 2500 block of State Route 571, west of Greenville, Ohio, and ended in a fatal vehicle crash in the 9600 block of Coletown-Lightsville Road.
At approximately 2:23 PM, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from an adult male victim, who reported that he had been shot by a friend at a residence on State Route 571.
The victim stated that the suspect was pursuing him in a vehicle while actively shooting as they traveled northbound on Coletown-Lightsville Road.
Deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and Union City Police Officers immediately responded to the area, treating the situation as an active shooting in progress.
During the pursuit, the suspect repeatedly rammed the victim’s vehicle, ultimately causing both vehicles to crash into a field.
The suspect’s SUV rolled multiple times, ejecting him from the vehicle.
Union City Police Officers were the first to arrive at the crash site and immediately requested Union City Fire & EMS and CareFlight.
Upon arrival, first responders found the suspect unconscious and not breathing in the field. He was later declared deceased at the scene by Union City Fire/EMS.
The victim, who had been shot multiple times, was treated at the scene before being airlifted via CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were inside either vehicle at the time of the incident.
While responding to the initial shooting report, Darke County deputies simultaneously arrived at the suspect’s residence on State Route 571, where the altercation had originally begun.
Upon conducting a search of the home, deputies discovered an adult female deceased inside the residence.
This death is being investigated as a homicide, pending official confirmation from the Darke County Coroner’s Office.
Detectives from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, along with investigators from the Darke County Coroner’s Office, continue to process both crime scenes. Preliminary findings suggest that both incidents are directly connected.
While the investigation remains ongoing, Sheriff Mark Whittaker has assured the public that there is no further active threat at this time.
Sheriff Whittaker also extended his gratitude to the Union City Police Officers and Fire/EMS units for their rapid response and assistance during a dangerous and fast-moving situation.
Fortunately, no other citizens were harmed during the incident.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
