Air Force Identifies Airman Killed in Shooting Incident outside Truman Gate at Kirtland Air Force Base
Kirtland Air Force Base, NM – The U.S. Air Force has identified the airman who was fatally shot in a Saturday morning incident outside Truman Gate at Kirtland Air Force Base.
Airman Basic Brion Teel-Scott, 27, of Bordentown, N.J., assigned to the 377th Security Forces Squadron, was killed on February 22, 2025, after allegedly fleeing an attempted detention.
A second airman was also injured during the incident.
The shooting occurred at approximately 2 a.m., when base security personnel responded to an incident near the entrance gate.
According to an initial statement, the situation escalated into an off-base pursuit, during which shots were fired, resulting in one airman sustaining a gunshot wound to the hand and another being fatally wounded.
In an official statement, Col. Michael Power, commander of the 377th Air Base Wing and Installation, expressed his condolences over the loss.
“Losing a member of your team is never easy, but the circumstances of this incident make it that much harder,” said Col. Power. “Additionally, we are ensuring our injured defender, the Wingmen of both members, and our base community receive the best possible care and support.”
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) is leading the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, with assistance from the FBI.
The investigation remains ongoing.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
