Murder-Suicide in Lafayette: Man Shoots Wife While Driving, Then Takes Own Life

Lafayette, LA – A tragic domestic violence incident unfolded Sunday evening on Johnston Street, where a New Iberia man fatally shot his wife while she was driving, before turning the gun on himself.

Two children were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, according to the Lafayette Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on February 10, 2025, in the 2100 block of Johnston Street, near The Ground Pat’i Restaurant.

Authorities say 60-year-old Kevin Brown was in the passenger seat while his wife, 47-year-old Shentell Brown, was driving.

Their two children were seated in the back of the vehicle when Kevin Brown suddenly opened fire on his wife, shooting her multiple times.

Shentell Brown succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Kevin Brown then shot himself inside the vehicle.

He was later transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During the incident, the two children inside the car managed to escape.

One child successfully flagged down a passing motorist, who drove them to the Lafayette Police Department to seek help.

The second child was struck by a passing vehicle while fleeing the scene but sustained only minor injuries, authorities confirmed.

Shentell was employed with the St. Martin Parish District Attorney’s Office, where she served in the Juvenile/Non-Support Division.

Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the possible motive behind the attack.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
