While authorities are still investigating whether the teenager was a student at the school, the GBI has confirmed that at least four people were killed and nine were injured in the shooting.
The suspect, who was initially believed to be deceased, is alive and in custody. The victims of the tragic incident have not yet been identified.
Barrow County Coroner Kenny Cooper described the heartbreaking scene at the school: “We are meticulously searching every classroom in this large building.”
The shooting occurred around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency services. Dozens of police vehicles and ambulances arrived at the scene.
A medical helicopter was seen transporting a victim from the school. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Georgia State Patrol, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Winder County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and GBI, are involved in the investigation.
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
