41-year-old Quincy Fields killed in downtown Augusta shooting, suspect Victor Prince charged with murder
Augusta, GA — A fatal shooting outside the Richmond Summit apartments on Wednesday afternoon has claimed the life of a 41-year-old man, marking the second confirmed homicide in Richmond County this year.
At approximately 3:23 p.m., deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 700 block of Broad Street after receiving reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Quincy Clay Fields, 41, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest.
Fields was transported to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.
Authorities have arrested Victor Prince, 62, in connection with the shooting. Prince has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Investigators indicate that both the victim and suspect were residents of Richmond Summit apartments and were acquainted.
This incident is the second homicide in Richmond County in 2025, following a previous shooting earlier this month. The circumstances leading to the shooting are still under investigation.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
