The tragic shooting of 36-year-old Oliver Moffett in the Red Bird neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, was partially captured on his home security camera, providing chilling insight into the events that unfolded.

Dallas Police responded to reports of gunfire on December 23, 2024, around 11:30 p.m., in the 7500 block of Chaucer Place.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that Oliver Moffett had been fatally shot multiple times at close range.

The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Keys Shaw, was later located at a local hospital with a gunshot wound of his own, which police determined was inflicted by Moffett during the exchange of gunfire.

According to investigators, Moffett, who was also armed, managed to fire several shots in self-defense, striking Shaw at least once before succumbing to his injuries.

Shaw received medical treatment for his gunshot wound and was taken into custody shortly afterward.

Details from the security footage suggest Moffett may have been set up. In the video, he can be heard shouting for help and calling out to someone he believed was still inside his apartment.

He repeatedly called for a woman, using explicit language, but no one came to his aid. Detectives believe the individual may have fled the scene, potentially through a back exit, prior to the escalation.

Dallas Police are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, including the possibility of a setup, as well as the relationship between Moffett and the individuals involved.

Authorities are working to uncover the motive behind this tragic incident and identify any additional parties who may have been present or involved.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the case to come forward. Tips can be directed to Detective P. Wheeler at 214-671-3686.

The Dallas Police Department remains committed to providing justice for Oliver Moffett and bringing closure to his family. Detectives are working diligently to piece together the events of that evening and ensure accountability for all those responsible.
