16-year-old Matim Nunley killed after shooting near gas station in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred last weekend outside a gas station in Kansas City as 16-year-old Matim Nunley.
The incident took place shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, in the parking lot of a convenience store located on East 63rd Street near the Missouri 350 Highway.
Officers from the Kansas City Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire and found the teenage victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
Nunley was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In the initial aftermath of the shooting, police had mistakenly reported the victim as an adult.
That information was corrected on Thursday when authorities released the teen’s name and confirmed his age.
A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation that escalated into gunfire in the parking lot.
Nunley was struck during the confrontation. As of Thursday, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
Detectives continue to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage from the area as part of the ongoing investigation.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
