Andre Moreland arrested, accused of murdering 19-year-old Ethan Austin in Rockford
ROCKFORD, Ill. — A 19-year-old man has died following a shooting early Friday morning in Rockford, and police have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.
According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were notified around 12:20 a.m. that a male gunshot victim had arrived at a local hospital.
The victim, later identified as Ethan Austin, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, officials confirmed.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting occurred during a physical altercation in the parking lot of Broadway Food & Liquor, located at 2710 Broadway.
During the confrontation, shots were fired, fatally wounding Austin.
Rockford Police launched an immediate investigation and, by Friday, located and arrested the suspected shooter, Andre Moreland, 40, in the 3200 block of Maryland Road.
Moreland has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Austin’s death.
Authorities also confirmed that he was wanted on additional outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.
Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the altercation or whether the suspect and victim knew each other prior to the incident.
The case remains under investigation.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
