Video Captures Moments Mass Shooting at Family Gathering on Cherryhill Street in Houston’s Mayfair Neighborhood
HOUSTON, TX – A family barbecue in Houston’s Mayfair neighborhood turned deadly early Saturday morning when gunfire broke out, leaving 14 people shot, including one confirmed fatality, and several others in critical condition.
The shooting occurred in the 6000 block of Cherryhill Drive near Loop 610 and Mykawa Road, shortly before 1:00 a.m.
According to Houston Police Department (HPD) Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu, the violence began after an uninvited guest at the party was asked to leave.
As he walked away, he allegedly opened fire, prompting individuals at the gathering to return gunfire.
The chaotic exchange of gunfire scattered victims throughout the property and surrounding areas.
HPD officers arrived on scene within three minutes of the initial 911 call and encountered an active and rapidly evolving situation.
Gunshots were still being reported nearby as officers worked to secure the area. Emergency medical responders began treating victims on-site, while others were rushed to hospitals by ambulance or private vehicles.
Among those transported were three gunshot victims dropped off at a nearby Jack-in-the-Box restaurant on Long Street.
In total, 14 individuals were struck by gunfire, with one person pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Several victims underwent emergency surgeries and remain in critical condition, while others are reported to be in stable condition.
Multiple individuals were detained at the scene for questioning, and police have since taken two suspects into custody, including one suspect apprehended at gunpoint.
Authorities have not confirmed if either suspect is the shooter who initially opened fire.
“This is a very complex, ongoing scene with multiple active crime scenes,” said Assistant Chief Cantu. “It was chaotic from the moment officers arrived, with victims located in various locations and information still coming in.”
The HPD Homicide Division is leading the investigation and urges anyone who attended the party, left before police arrived, or transported victims to contact investigators at 713-308-3600. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
Police have not released the identities of the deceased or injured individuals at this time, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
