31-year-old Deon Haynes killed after shooting in Buena Vista Township

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Buena Vista Police Department is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 26, 2025.

At approximately 4:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Arlington Road following reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, they located a male victim, identified as 31-year-old Deon Haynes, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Mr. Haynes was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment; however, despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that Mr. Haynes was the intended target in what appears to have been an isolated incident.

The Buena Vista Police Department is working closely with the Michigan State Police Crime Lab to process evidence and further the investigation.

At this time, no suspect information has been released.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
