Nashville, Tenn. — A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with rape of a child after a months-long investigation revealed he had a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old girl who later gave birth, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

The investigation began after a 12-year-old girl disclosed to authorities that she had engaged in a sexual encounter with an adult male she met on Facebook in May 2024, when she was just 11 years old.

The case was referred to the MNPD’s Youth Services Division, which specializes in crimes involving the sexual exploitation and abuse of minors.

Using details provided by the victim, detectives executed a search warrant on the suspect’s Facebook account.

That search revealed both the name and telephone number of the individual.

The suspect was identified as Raymundo Juan Reyes Cornelio, 19, of Davidson County.

Authorities were first able to confirm his identity after Cornelio was stopped on March 1 for a window tint violation.

During that stop, he was cited for driving without a license, and the citation included his Davidson County residence, which later helped police locate him.

On Friday, April 11, Cornelio was taken into custody without incident.

During an interview with investigators, Cornelio reportedly admitted to having sexual contact with the victim, acknowledging that the encounter occurred when she was 11 years old.

However, he claimed he believed the girl was 14 at the time.

The girl later gave birth to a baby boy on February 14, according to MNPD.

Cornelio has been formally charged with rape of a child and is currently being held at Metro Jail on a $75,000 bond.

Additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues.

The Youth Services Division of MNPD continues to lead the investigation.

The unit is responsible for investigating all reports of child sexual abuse, exploitation, molestation, and related crimes involving victims under the age of 18.

Anyone with information about this case or other similar incidents is encouraged to contact the MNPD Youth Services Division or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Tips can remain anonymous.
