Hoover Woman Fatally Shot During Dispute with Brother, Suspect in Custody

Hoover, AL – A 55-year-old woman was shot and killed Saturday morning outside a Hoover residence following an argument with her brother, who has since been arrested and charged with murder, according to law enforcement officials.
At approximately 8:00 a.m., Hoover police responded to reports of shots fired in the 700 block of Jasmine Way, a small one-street subdivision off Shades Crest Road.
Multiple 911 callers reported that a woman had been shot and injured.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying outside the residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses and officers provided emergency aid until Hoover Fire medics arrived.
The victim was transported to UAB Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities have identified the victim as Rosalind Barclay, 55, of Childersburg.
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between Rosalind Barclay and her brother, 40-year-old Jonathan Arthur Barclay, who resided at the Hoover home where the incident took place.
Police say that Rosalind Barclay arrived at the residence earlier that morning, and a verbal altercation began inside the home.
The argument then escalated outside, near her vehicle, at which point Jonathan Barclay retrieved a firearm and opened fire, striking his sister multiple times.
Neighbors reported hearing six gunshots before emergency responders arrived.
An off-duty law enforcement officer was in the area at the time of the shooting and was able to quickly intervene, detaining the suspect before additional officers arrived.
Jonathan Barclay has been formally charged with murder and is being held without bond.
Hoover Police detectives are continuing their investigation to gather further details surrounding the incident.
