Teen charged in fatal shooting of 15-year-old Troy Hernandez in Jackson

The Jackson Police Department is conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m. in the 100 block of Dustin Drive.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered 15-year-old Troy Hernandez inside a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded promptly and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, Hernandez succumbed to his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, authorities detained a 16-year-old male who was present at the scene for questioning.
After reviewing the evidence, the District Attorney’s Office determined that the circumstances warranted criminally negligent homicide charges against the 16-year-old suspect.
The City of Jackson Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Troy Hernandez during this tragic time.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
