32-year-old Karina Martinez-Ortiz killed in New Bedford shooting

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. – Authorities have launched a homicide investigation following the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old woman in New Bedford on Tuesday evening.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at 438 Bolton Street, where they discovered Karina Martinez-Ortiz lying on the floor outside her first-floor apartment, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel transported Martinez-Ortiz to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
As of Wednesday afternoon, law enforcement officials continued to block off the area as the investigation remained active.
A memorial with candles and tributes was placed outside the building in her memory.
At this time, no suspects have been identified, and authorities have not released details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
However, New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell stated that the incident appears to have been a targeted attack.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
