Man Fatally Shot by Police in Officer-Involved Shooting in Lincoln
Lincoln, ME – A man was fatally shot by police during an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night in Lincoln, following an incident involving a protection from abuse order violation and an alleged attack on law enforcement officers.
Authorities responded to a residence on Whalen Street at approximately 8:30 p.m., after receiving reports that Derek Beach was at the home in violation of a protection from abuse order and bail conditions that barred him from being at the location.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to negotiate with Beach, urging him to comply with their instructions.
However, officials stated that Beach refused to respond to their commands.
As negotiations failed, officers deployed a Taser in an attempt to subdue him.
At that point, Beach allegedly lunged at officers with a knife, prompting police to discharge their firearms in response.
Beach was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following standard procedure, both involved officers have been placed on administrative leave while the Office of the Attorney General conducts an independent investigation into the use of deadly force.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
