Houston, TX – February 13, 2025 – Authorities are investigating a domestic shooting incident in the Edgebrook neighborhood, where a son fatally shot his father Tuesday night.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, is claiming self-defense, according to police.

The Houston Police Department (HPD) responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Edgebrook around Tuesday evening.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male inside the residence, later confirmed to be the suspect’s father.

According to investigators, the suspect remained on the scene and immediately surrendered to police.

He informed authorities that he had acted in self-defense during an altercation inside the home.

Law enforcement officials stated that the victim’s wife (the suspect’s mother) and grandmother were inside the residence at the time of the shooting.

However, authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding their involvement or what led to the deadly encounter.

The suspect has been taken into custody as detectives work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

Investigators are conducting interviews with witnesses, reviewing evidence from the scene, and analyzing potential surveillance footage to determine if the shooting aligns with the suspect’s self-defense claim.

Under Texas law, individuals may use deadly force in self-defense if they reasonably believe they are facing an imminent threat to their life. Prosecutors will review the case to determine if charges will be filed or if the son’s actions fall under justifiable self-defense statutes.
