South Shore Shooting: Suspects identified in fatal shooting of 29-year-old Jamia Taylor

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially identified 29-year-old Jamia Taylor, also known as "Mya," as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2025. While no arrests have been made at this time, authorities are actively searching for Terri Lashae Bailey, also known as Kitana Brooks, and Terrence Reed, also known as Tskud, as persons of interest in connection to the shooting.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially identified 29-year-old Jamia Taylor, also known as “Mya,” as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2025.

At approximately 5:25 a.m., Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire near 79th Street and Bennett Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found Taylor unresponsive in the middle of the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her chest and body.

Emergency medical personnel transported Taylor to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary findings suggest that Taylor had been attending a gathering to celebrate her birthday at an after-hours event when she was confronted by an unknown assailant who opened fire before fleeing the scene.

While no arrests have been made at this time, authorities are actively searching for Terri Lashae Bailey, also known as Kitana Brooks, and Terrence Reed, also known as Tskud, as persons of interest in connection to the shooting.

The Chicago Police Department’s Area 4 Detectives are leading the investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
