34-year-old Yamil Rivera-Perez shoots and kills ex-girlfriend, her friend at home in Humble

Humble, TX – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a double homicide that occurred Monday night in the 8000 block of Rebawood Drive in Humble.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies from Precinct 4 responded to a call reporting a shooting at the residence.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim deceased from gunshot wounds.
A female victim, who was also shot, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators identified the suspect as 34-year-old Yamil Rivera-Perez, who allegedly forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s home and opened fire.
Authorities say Rivera-Perez shot and killed his former partner, identified as Charity Freeman, and her male acquaintance, identified as Alejandro Suarez, who was visiting at the time.
Rivera-Perez was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail, where he faces charges of capital murder.
According to court documents, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has filed a motion to deny bail for Rivera-Perez.
At present, he is being held without bond pending indictment. However, if granted bail following an indictment, he will be subject to strict conditions, including:
- No contact with the victims’ families.
- Prohibition from possessing firearms.
- Mandatory random drug testing.
- Electronic ankle monitoring with a curfew.
If convicted of capital murder, Rivera-Perez could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
Crime Scene Investigators and Homicide Detectives continue to process evidence and gather information related to the case.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
