Binghamton Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting in High-Rise Apartment

A Binghamton man has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a woman in a downtown high-rise apartment building late Saturday night.

According to authorities, Binghamton Police responded to a report of gunfire at the Woodburn Court One Tower, located at 21 Exchange Street, around 11:50 p.m.

Upon arrival at the seventh floor of the 11-story building, officers discovered Sarah Hauer, 54, unresponsive in the hallway. She had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Police revealed that Hauer was a close friend of a resident in one of the seventh-floor apartments.

Preliminary investigations indicated that she was confronted and shot by her friend’s former boyfriend, Terell Heyward, 51.

Heyward fled the scene immediately after the shooting but was located a short time later by members of the Binghamton Police Department’s Community Response Team.

Officers apprehended him as he was leaving his apartment at 24 Isbell Street, where they found him in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun.

Charges Filed

Heyward has been charged with the following:

  • Second-Degree Murder in connection with Sarah Hauer’s death.
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

Authorities confirmed that the firearm recovered from Heyward had been reported stolen in the town of Union.

Heyward was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and is currently being held at Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson.

Police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with additional information regarding the incident to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Division at (607) 772-7080.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
