The incident, which was reported at approximately 5:09 p.m., has been confirmed as Milwaukee’s first gun violence homicide of 2025, according to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD).

Authorities reported that the victim was transported to a local hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the 18-year-old was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.

In connection with the shooting, Milwaukee police have taken a 17-year-old suspect into custody.

The suspect’s identity has not been released, and details regarding the relationship between the victim and the suspect remain under investigation.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
