25-year-old Darius Goolsby killed in Greensboro shooting, suspect Jalen Burch charged with murder

At approximately 9:23 a.m., first responders from Greensboro Police, Greensboro Fire, and Guilford County EMS were dispatched to a reported stabbing and gunshot wound incident at 2939 W. Vandalia Road.Upon arrival, authorities located 25-year-old Darius Deshaud Goolsby in a breezeway, suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

GREENSBORO, NC (January 6, 2025) — At approximately 9:23 a.m., first responders from Greensboro Police, Greensboro Fire, and Guilford County EMS were dispatched to a reported stabbing and gunshot wound incident at 2939 W. Vandalia Road.

Upon arrival, authorities located 25-year-old Darius Deshaud Goolsby in a breezeway, suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

Life-saving measures were initiated, and Goolsby was transported to a local hospital.

Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. His next of kin have been notified.

Detectives and forensic investigators processed the scene and quickly identified a suspect, 25-year-old Jalen Xavier Burch.

Burch was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Goolsby’s death.

This incident marks Greensboro’s fourth homicide of 2025.

Speaking from police headquarters, Chief John Thompson addressed the city’s concerns regarding recent homicides.

“We recognize that community safety is on the minds of many across Greensboro. Please be aware that none of the four recent homicides are connected,” Chief Thompson stated. “Our team is following leads and has already made arrests in two of the four cases. One of these arrests is the result of significant collaboration between GPD and the community, and we are grateful for this support and partnership. We’re stronger and more effective when we work together to keep our neighborhoods and families safe.”

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
