Rainbow City, AL – Authorities have identified the man fatally shot by police during a domestic hostage situation in Rainbow City on Wednesday.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) announced on Thursday that the deceased is 46-year-old Jamin David Elkins, a resident of Mt. Dora, Florida.

The Rainbow City Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Williams Avenue in the Rainbow Estates neighborhood shortly before noon in response to a reported domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, the situation escalated into a tense hostage scenario.

According to law enforcement, Elkins, the suspect, fired shots at responding officers. Police returned fire, fatally wounding him.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the exchange.

The incident prompted a multi-agency response that included the Rainbow City Police Department, the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, and other supporting agencies. Officers secured the scene and ensured the safety of the hostages and nearby residents.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
