Joel Gonzalez Chacin Arrested in Tragic Crash That Killed 7 year-old Ivory Smith in Houston
On December 1, 2024, deputies from Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a fatal crash in the 10900 block of Bammel North Houston Road.
The collision, believed to be caused by impaired driving, resulted in the tragic death of 7-year-old Ivory Smith. Her mother, Christina Quainoo, sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The suspected drunk driver, Joel Gonzalez Chacin, was arrested at the scene and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter. He is currently held in the Harris County Jail on a $150,000 bond set by the 232nd District Court.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
