OAK PARK, IL – The Oak Park Police Department is grieving the loss of one of its own after a tragic shooting on Friday morning left a detective dead and a suspect injured.

At approximately 9:35 a.m., the Oak Park Fire Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 800 block of Lake Street. When authorities arrived, they discovered that an Oak Park Police Detective had been shot on the left side of his torso.

The officer, identified as 40-year-old Detective Allan Reddins, was immediately transported to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.

Despite medical efforts, Reddins was pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m.

According to officials, the incident began moments earlier when the suspect was seen leaving a bank on Lake Street armed with a gun. This prompted the initial police response, culminating in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect, who was shot in the leg during the confrontation, was apprehended at the scene and is now receiving treatment at Loyola Hospital.

Detective Allan Reddins, a resident of Chicago, joined the Oak Park Police Department in May 2019. Known for his dedication and professionalism, Reddins was described as a highly respected member of the department. His death marks a profound loss for his colleagues and the community he served.

“The Village of Oak Park extends its deepest condolences to Detective Reddins’ family, friends, and colleagues within the Oak Park Police Department and the wider law enforcement community as they process the grief caused by this senseless violence,” a spokesperson for the village said in a statement.

The suspect remains in custody, but authorities have not yet released details regarding the charges or the sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting. Investigators continue to gather evidence and encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
