24-year-old Olivia Graves fatally shot taking 12-year-old nephew home from school
The suspect reportedly fired multiple times, even endangering Olivia’s young nephew.
A tragic shooting in Southeast D.C. on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of 24-year-old Olivia Graves, who was taking her 12-year-old nephew home from school at the time.
According to her mother, Ondraya Graves, Olivia and her nephew were in a car with friends who were giving them a ride home.
They had made a brief stop near Atlantic Street and 8th Street when a confrontation outside escalated.
Olivia’s mother explained that Olivia was not involved in the altercation but was trying to help deescalate the situation.
During this time, a man, later identified as 62-year-old Maurice Jackson, allegedly approached the car, not fully understanding the situation.
He threatened to kill everyone inside before opening fire.
Tragically, Olivia was struck in the chest.
The suspect reportedly fired multiple times, even endangering Olivia’s young nephew.
Emergency responders rushed Olivia to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Police have since arrested Maurice Jackson, charging him with second-degree murder in connection with Olivia’s death.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.
The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.
At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.
The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
