One of the four victims who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter crash that occurred Sunday night in Houston has been identified as Cesar Lerma.

Lerma was a passenger on the National Helicopter Solutions helicopter, which was conducting a night tour over the city.

Garrett Kauffman, a colleague and competitor, shared his condolences and expressed his admiration for Lerma’s skills as a craftsman.

Kauffman described Lerma as a master of his craft, highlighting his recent contribution to a project by removing panels from RTS cabinets to allow for the installation of glass.

Kauffman praised Lerma’s exceptional craftsmanship and his ability to create custom cabinets that exceeded his expectations.

He expressed regret for not having been a better friend to Lerma and fondly remembered his patience and gentle personality.

Lerma is survived by his two sons, who are believed to have joined him in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Kauffman will miss Lerma and cherish the memories they shared.

A tragic helicopter crash occurred near Engelke and Ennis in Houston at approximately 7:54 PM, according to the Houston Fire Department.

During a media briefing, Mayor John Whitmire confirmed that the crash claimed the lives of four individuals, including a child.

The helicopter, an R44 private aircraft, was traveling from Ellington Airport.

Mayor John Whitmire, HFD Chief Thomas Muñoz, HPD Chief Noe Diaz, and DPS officials gathered for a press conference following the incident.

Mayor Whitmire commended the rapid response of the HFD, noting that a nearby fire station was able to reach the scene within minutes.

The fire caused by the crash burned approximately 100 to 200 yards of grass near the radio tower. However, the fire was successfully extinguished, and there is no threat to the community.

Officials are urging residents to avoid touching any debris from the helicopter and to immediately call 911 if they discover any components.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the HFD, and the HPD are investigating the cause of the crash.

It is important to note that the radio tower’s lights had been reported as inoperable on October 16th.

Little River County Deputy Carl Jensen Found Deceased After Failing to Report for Duty

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Deputy Sheriff Carl “Little Chief” Jensen, a deeply respected and dedicated member of the Little River County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Jensen was found deceased earlier this evening after he did not report for his scheduled shift.

Deputy Jensen was more than a colleague—he was a cherished brother in uniform, a trusted protector of the community, and a steadfast public servant whose presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Carl’s journey into law enforcement was driven by a passion to protect those who could not protect themselves.

After completing college, he began his career with Adult Protective Services, investigating allegations of abuse and exploitation in state hospitals, group homes, and home health care settings.

It was during one such case—uncovering the truth behind a complex exploitation investigation—that Carl realized his calling. “I got bit by the law enforcement bug that day,” he once said. “I wanted to help protect and bring justice to those who need it.”

Throughout his career, Deputy Jensen demonstrated extraordinary empathy, integrity, and resilience. He often reflected on the emotional weight of his work, especially when responding to calls on what could be the most difficult days in people’s lives.

“Sometimes, people don’t realize that we’re there to help everyone involved,” he shared. “Even on what could be their worst day, I can do my best to make it better—or at least keep them calm.” His compassion and humanity set an example for us all.

Our deepest condolences and unwavering support go out to Deputy Jensen’s family during this incredibly painful time.

We ask the community to join us in keeping his loved ones and our department in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this heartbreaking loss.

Deputy Carl Jensen’s legacy of service, kindness, and courage will never be forgotten.

We are grateful for his life, his dedication, and the profound impact he had on those he served and served with.
