23-year-old Justin Askew killed in Trotwood shooting

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died after being shot in Trotwood and seeking help at two gas stations.

Justin Askew, 23, was the victim of the shooting.

The investigation began when one of the victims drove into a gas station in the area of Salem Avenue and Free Pike and called 911.

The victim then drove a block to the Sonoco gas station, where workers called for assistance around 2:40 AM.

A 911 caller reported that a man had been shot and was deceased in the parking lot.

Another victim was also injured and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital along with Askew.

Unfortunately, Askew did not survive the journey.

Trotwood Police believe the shooting itself occurred near the 5300 block of Free Pike.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine if any arrests have been made.

Suspect in custody after shooting at Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
