Victims killed in Eastern Market shooting identified as Jalen Welch and Rayshawn Bryant

A second victim has succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting incident that occurred at Eastern Market in Detroit on Sunday.

The shooting, which took place during a post-Detroit Lions game tailgate party, resulted in the deaths of two men.

One victim, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other, in his 20s, died later that night.

The victims have been identified as Jalen Welch and Rayshawn Bryant.

Detroit Police Chief James White reported that the altercation leading to the shooting began around 4:30 PM, as thousands of people were gathered in the area following the Lions game at Ford Field.

A suspect, a man in his 30s from Oak Park, was apprehended by officers who heard the gunshots and were nearby on traffic duty.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.

As a result, the lockdown at the mall has been lifted.

The Meridian Township Police Department issued a public advisory just before 2:00 p.m., urging residents and shoppers to avoid the area near the Dick’s Sporting Goods entrance while officers conducted an active investigation at the scene.

At this time, police have not released specific details regarding the nature of the shooting, including whether anyone was injured or the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident and are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

The public is asked to remain clear of the immediate area to allow for the ongoing investigation.
