Newton County Indiana Sheriff’s Deputy Corporal Brandon Schreiber in critical condition after being shot in Sheldon

On the evening of Sunday, September 1, 2024, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois with a pursuit that crossed into Indiana before returning to Illinois in Sheldon.
During the incident, Corporal Brandon Schreiber, a five-year veteran of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, was shot by the suspect, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Corporal Schreiber was initially transported to Iroquois Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to the Carle Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition.
The suspect is also believed to have been shot during the confrontation.
The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 has been tasked with investigating the officer-involved shooting in Sheldon.
“The investigation is in its early stages, and no further information was available late Sunday,” the Illinois State Police stated.
The Schreiber family has requested privacy as they cope with this tragedy.

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody following a shooting incident at the Meridian Mall on Friday afternoon.
